Supplies needed:
2 – 2 oz. glass dropper bottles, amber or blue to block light
Essential oils listed below, organic if possible, sourced carefully*
Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) – distilled, such as George’s
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba oil)
Small plastic funnel for essential oils
This mixture is not cheap to purchase the supplies, but it’s cheaper than the commercial version.
Place several layers of paper towel or newspaper down on your work surface. Have paper towels handy in case of spills. To one 2 oz. glass bottle, add equal parts Aloe and Jojoba oil (eg., 1 oz. of each). Cap the bottle. This is the base you will use when you make each batch of Face Food.
Shake the base mixture vigorously and pour 1/4 of the mixture into the second 2 oz. glass bottle. It should be 1/4 full, and contain 0.5 oz. Recap the base mixture and save it for the next time you make Face Food.
Next add the following essential oils to the second bottle, carefully, using the funnel:
40 drops Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender – France)
40 drops Origanum Vulgare (Oregano – Morocco)
40 drops Syzygium Aromaticums (Clove bud – Indonesia)
40 drops Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme – South Africa)
20 drops Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh – Somalia)
20 drops Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine)
10 drops Vetiveria Zizaniodes (Vetiver)
10 drops Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang)
15 drops Popostemon Cablin (Patchouli)
10 drops Santalum Specatum (Sandalwood)
20 drops Elettaria Cardamomum (Cardamom seed)
5 drops Citrus Reticulata (Mandarin Orange)
20 drops Citrus X Limon (Lemon)
I recommend capping each essential oil immediately after use so that you don’t mix up bottles and caps. Dry off the funnel with a paper towel and store for next time. If you don’t like any of the essential oils you can omit it. Cap the bottle and shake vigorously. Shake before each use and start slow!
Like the original, this blend is quite potent. Begin by putting 5 drops of jojoba or other carrier oil (sweet almond is nice) on your palm and add one drop of the Face Food mixture. Rub your hands together to combine and then spread evenly over your face once or twice a day after cleansing. Increase to tolerance up to 6 drops. Typically you will experience a bit of redness and heat, though occasionally it can feel like your face is on fire. Be aware that essential oils can cause contact sensitivity, and you may not tolerate the mixture or individual oils in it. Citrus essential oils can also cause sun sensitivity, so take precautions (wear sun protection). Suggested for use for acne, rosacea, etc.

*You can get into big trouble using “bargain” essential oils. Some tested from online sources have been found to be tainted with dangerous chemicals. Always rely on the Latin name of the plant to make sure you are using the correct one. In addition, pay attention to the location they are grown because essential oils can vary considerably based on the geographical location. My trusted essential oil sources are Quella and Stillpoint Aromatics.
